Please call me with any questions @. 406-239-8860 Welcome to my auction. I have painstakingly attempted through numerous images & my Youtube video to honestly & accurately describe the craftsmanship & detail that was included in this conversion so please view images & video carefully before contacting me. I'm happy to share a more detailed description of completed work for those truly interested.I attempted in every aspect of this conversion to make the most efficient use of limited space to make it as user friendly and efficiently designed as possible & I hope my efforts are apparent.I've been searching for the right ex Ambulance to convert for a long time till this one recently came along. Out of service just last year (2020) where it was used sparingly as a transport vehicle from it's hometown of Davenport WA to hospitals in Spokane a 80-100 mile RT. Always housed in a climate controlled building & driven gently in the almost desert climate of eastern WA (hence almost no perceptible rust or corrosion anywhere). With only 76K miles & very low idle hours, this truck has always been religiously serviced & fleet maintained.
The legendary 7.3L motor is arguably the best & most economical designed & built motor that FOMOCO ever used. (I just averaged 15 MPG fully loaded a few weeks ago on my last camping trip). The latest upgrade I made a few days ago included an Edge Evolution CS tuner/Scan tool that is a full color high resolution 2.5" screen that can be programmed to add up to 110HP & 210lbs of torque. These different tunes can improve fuel economy & towing capabilities.
I've spent the last several months & countless hours in the shop transforming & re-purposing this truck into what you see in the images. Using nothing but the highest quality parts & equipment available everything that you see comes along with the sale except just a few personal pieces of recreational equipment that have special meaning to me (Canoe & the Mt bikes visible in a couple images, & the cordless chainsaw visible in one of the video segments on my Youtube channel). I want to emphasize that this camper is turn key & you will need nothing to jump into it & head off in any direction for your roadtripping adventure!
I chose not to build in a ladder on the rear of the truck to access the powder coated full sized rack on top to not tempt anyone to help themselves when unattended but have included a 12' extendable aluminum ladder that is lightweight & easily and safely operable & stored inside the right hand ext compartment just in front of the side door for the purpose of reaching the roof. The RTT has it's own dedicated ladder that attaches to the cantilevered portion of the huge California King sized sleeping area! Other then that, it's basically a turn-key camper ready to drive to Prudhoe Bay or perhaps in the other direction to the end of the road in Tierra del fuego!
The majority of the conversion involved cutting & removing cabinetry & converting & repurposing space to make it usable for living & cooking space as well as cutting through the shell for the purpose of adding two sliding windows complete with mossie netting. Ambulances are far superior in many aspects to converting into campers than almost any other vehicle because of the way they are originally constructed & electronically equipped. Built to withstand rollover type collisions and outfitted with high powered inverters & house battery banks to power any foreseeable need which means the basics for conversion are already there! Ample cabinetry & a 6' high closet with shelves & hangar rack allow storage options for clothing & gear for year round recreational activity gear.
This Ambulance as many of them do, came with a 2000W Zantrex inverter and electronic cabinet that was stacked with almost everything needed for the conversion. I added 3 high end AGM deep cycle batteries, a 12V fuse block, Renogy battery monitor display,12V to 24V step up converter for the Espar D5 diesel heater, some LED lighting throughout, a few switches to control such things as outside speakers, light switches, water pump, a 4 flat pigtail for trailer lights & a wireless back-up camera, to name just some of the electronic additions. A 3800W Super quiet WEN generator was added to the left rear compartment which was soundproofed and equipped with an exhaust port and 30A chord which when plugged connects to the Inverter & a throw switch which separates shoreline power from that generated by the genny before it reaches the Inverter. This allows for electric devices to be powered when not plugged into 110V & the ability to recharge house batteries without starting the trucks motor. Should you choose to do that however there are two almost new HD alternators under the hood & house battery recharge takes no time at all. I also installed a class 5 receiver hitch for towing purposes.
The galley is equipped with a two burner LPG stove (15 gals of propane feeding it) a sink w/12 G containers of potable water & a 12 gal reserve tank. I added a sliding window in the galley above the stove for added light & ventilation as well as the Maxxair 7500 fan that was installed in the roof above the galley. This remote controlled ventilation fan is the RVers choice for rain protection as well as a highly effective ventilation system. The fridge/freezer unit is a high end Isotherm Cruiser 200 5 cuft double door model that adequately cools whatever you may need for weekend outings or two week boondock adventures. Double LED 4 way reading lights adorn the underside of the cabinet above the couch/bed and across the cabin is a 43" top of the line 4K Sony flatscreen TV tucked away behind a removable panel. It's attached to a Sanus mount that will pull-out 26" as well as swivel 90* in either direction making it possible to watch inside or out! Dimmable LED track lighting was installed along the floor, under cabinets & in the cab to replace the dome light. The ceiling was paneled & LED puck lights were added as well. Heating the cabin is controlled from a switch above the bed & is carried out by the RV/Marine specialist manufacturing German Co Eberspacher D5 diesel heater that is designed to run off the main diesel tank in vehicles or boats in a very fuel stingy & efficient manner. All of the original sliding cabinet doors were replaced with vertical grain fir and slide perfectly. Barnwood accents were tastefully added in several places to help alleviate the "industrial" look of the original interior as well as new upholstered head protection installed above all doors. External compartments were fitted with slide-out drawers or trays and hinged tables were fabricated on two of the doors.
I don't want to take the time to list all of the equipment & items that make this Campulance a "one of a kind" build-out but am happy to share with those that are truly interested a list of everything that went into the build and an explanation of all systems & the amount of time it takes to set everything up including the RTT (roof top tent & annex including outdoor kitchen as well as the inside couch to bed transformation).I highly recommend for those seriously interested to call me 406-239-8860 or email me for a link to my Youtube channel to see my walk around video where I explain in depth each & every aspect of this unique vehicle.
I'd again like to point out that it is basically a turn-key purchase and everything you see pictured is included in the sale with the exception of canoe & bikes! Hopefully If you become the lucky purchaser we'll meet one day soon & I can help you attain the roadtripping dream you've been fantasizing about!
Happy to help with shipping arrangements if necessary! Good luck & hope you have the chance to hit the road soon & explore this amazing country we call home....
